Happy Fourth of July 2013!

It's always kind of interesting how our Fourth of July plays out.  Every year we are in a brand new city and have no idea how the people of each city celebrate the holiday.  This year was no different. Though I did get some feedback from the other moms at Harlow's gymnastics class. There is a huge celebration in downtown Indianapolis but we were told it was really crowded and more of a party scene. Since we didn't know how Lennox would react or if she would even let us stay out late enough to watch the fireworks, we chose to stay closer to home.  Another mom had recommended a city about 10 minutes from us called Carmel. It's a newer developed city so it was nice and clean. And really quaint! They had a little festival going on with music, food and vendors. Not too crowded and a ton of different options on where to sit and watch the fireworks.  We walked around the festival, grabbed a snow cone, and Harlow got a fireman hat and sucker from the fire station. Then we picked a spot on the lawn outside of a performance theater to watch the fireworks. Harlow freaked out before the show even started. Someone set off a firework unexpectedly and she burst into tears and refused to remove her fingers from her ears.  We finally calmed her down and kept talking about how pretty the fireworks were going to be. Last year she loved the fireworks and had no issues. She even spent all day talking about going to watch the fireworks and was so excited. Go figure! Lennox on the other hand never flinched at the sound or even acknowledged them during the show. She was much more interested in the grass we sat her in front of!

She usually hates wearing hats but she surprised me by wanting to wear this hat. She wore it all night long. She must really love her Grandpa Brent who is a fire Chief!

The performance theater where we watched the fireworks show.

Such a quaint city with lampposts and American flags down every street.

She got a sucker and a hat from the fire station.

Getting settled to watch the show.

She sat through the whole show with her fingers in her ears.

Our first Fourth of July as a family of four!
