Swearing in Ceremony for Chief of Fire - Brent Hafen

A few weeks ago we heard that Pete's Dad, Brent, was interviewing for a Fire Chief position in Washington City.  After a few days of hearing updates on the interviewing process we learned that he had got the job! He and Rhonda told us there was a swearing in ceremony on Wednesday, April 3.  The first words out of my mouth when I heard he got the job was, "We should go surprise him at the ceremony."  I guess Rhonda had the same idea too! We worked it out in our schedule, and Brianna and Nick wanted to go too.

We packed up all the kids and drove through the night and arrived in St. George on Wednesday morning a little after 2 a.m.  The ceremony didn't start until 12.  We stayed at Brianna's mom's house so Brent wouldn't know we were in town.  We got to the ceremony a little early and saw Rhonda first, she was in the front and told Nick and Pete that Brent was in the bathroom.  So they both walked in and surprised him.  Wish we could have seen his reaction but they were in the men's bathroom... From what I hear, they made him cry!

Amelia and Harlow were so excited to see him and this picture is my favorite of the entire trip! I am so glad we got to be there for such a special moment.  The saying rings true that good things happen to good people.  Brent deserves this and we are so proud of him! During our stay in Utah we got to spend some time with family, celebrate Brent's new promotion, celebrate Pete and Harlow's birthday and check out Grandpa's new office and fire station.  It was totally worth the two days of driving in a 3 day trip!
